Therapeia provides customized “therapeutic” massage and other treatments to improve clients' overall well-being, resolve problem areas and encourage rejuvenation. We use the term “therapeutic” to emphasize our mission to profoundly affect the physical and mental states of our clientele, as well as their sense of wellness and health.

Lauri Karstetter has more than 20 years of experience in the spa, fitness and holistic healing industry. After earning her bachelor's and master's degrees in kinesiology from San Francisco State University and attending the National Holistic Institute, Lauri worked as a massage therapist for 20 years.

In January 2000 Lauri decided to pursue her dream of opening a center in San Francisco that would fully integrate massage therapy with complimentary healing modalities. Her vision was to give urban clients a place to retreat to reconnect with their mind and body and restore their health and wellness.

While many people think of massage as a cure for a particular physical ailment, Lauri believes that regular therapeutic massage and bodywork have countless benefits that are both preventative and restorative. Her goal is simple: to make the name Therapeia synonymous with people fully enjoying their lives.

When not helping her valued clients take care of themselves, Lauri enjoys spending time with her family, practicing yoga, being outdoors in the beautiful Bay Area, walking her dogs on the beach, and cooking fun, creative meals for family and friends.

After earning her bachelor's degree in political science from the University of California at Berkeley in just three and a half years, Stephanie sought a job at a yoga studio. An avid athlete who played Division I field hockey in college, she was drawn to yoga as a way to gain strength and mental clarity. She was offered a position at Therapeia in the early days when the center was just a "hole in the wall."

Stephanie begun her tenure at the front desk and quickly took on added responsibilities. Building on her invaluable internship experiences in public relations, marketing and customer service, she soon assumed a more managerial role, helping owner Lauri Karstetter run the business more efficiently.

Today Stephanie performs all of the day-to-day management duties at the 10,000-square -foot space, including assisting with the hiring and training of the staff of over 25 therapists and selecting the retail products available for purchase.

When not at work, Stephanie enjoys a variety of sports including swimming, softball and yoga. She also loves to read, eat the fantastic food available in the Bay Area and share her free time with friends.
